Currency Creek Arboretum is a specialist eucalypt arboretum ('zoo of trees'), with its main purpose being research into Australia's most dominant natural group of plants, the eucalypts. The arboretum has the largest collection of eucalypt species in the world, with over 900 species and subspecies (and over 10000 individual plants) having been planted on the site since 1993. The arboretum has been established and is managed by Dean Nicolle.
Dean is well known in South Australia for his passionate research and protection of eucalypts. In 2018 he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) by the Governor-General for services to the conservation of Australian eucalypts.
The open days on the 1st & 2nd October give community a rare opportunity to visit the arboretum. In addition Dean will be conducting conducting guided tours of the site at 10am and 2pm. For more information visit the
arboretum website.
