Rubus parvifolius Native raspberry
This plant has a limited distribution in all of our parks ( and is classified as rare (FLB01) - Rare (IUCN: RAd(ii)) - probable decline - likes good soils, threats: spraying)) and tends to grow along creek lines in protected areas with high moisture.
Other name for the plant include:
Native Raspberry; Small-leaved Bramble; Native Bramble; Pink-flowered Native Raspberry; Small Leaf Bramble; Small Leaf Raspberry; Small-leaf Bramble.
If not careful it can be easily mistaken for the weed - blackberry…..
The maps shows the distribution with a small pocket in SA and most on the eastern coast.
The berries are considered to be edible.
Recently we found some damaged material in one of our parks and tried to strike some of it from cuttings. This was based the tendency of the plant to sucker. Even in a small supergrow tube a plant can have runners up to 1m long.
It was found that every short stem and leaf node was relatively easy to strike and these will slowly be reintroduced into the parks.
