Introducing Greg Wright

My mother used to take my sister and I on long walks around the Aldinga Beach scrub in the 1960’s, describing all the plants she could identify along the way. It must have made an impression on my younger self, as I have loved Australian native flora ever since. Probably the first time I saw a grove of Santalum acuminatum (Quandong) trees.

My professional background was in educational administration in TAFE and university for almost 30 years. Hiking in the bush has always been a passion, and I have found myself drawn to better appreciating and identifying the huge variety of native flora in Australia. I have been volunteering on weed clearing sessions along the Morialta creek for a few years, and quickly realised how LITTLE I knew about the science and techniques underpinning land care in the area. So, joining the Friends of Black Hill and Morialta committee will give me an opportunity to learn more about caring for our unique hills environment, by gaining knowledge and skills from a dedicated group of members. And wow, I have a LOT to learn…but plenty of time and enthusiasm to give in support of the committee’s activities and vision.
