We work on the first and third Sunday of the month to maintain the old Wildflower Garden and prevent introduced species getting into the greater Black Hill Conservation Park.
At the moment, the forecast for Athelstone is 41 degrees, with an overnight low of 21.
Despite this, there is a fire danger rating of "High" when I checked, so the event is not automatically cancelled at this stage, although the fire danger rating is not finalised until 5:00 pm the day before (Saturday).
Nonetheless, I feel that with the warm overnight minimum, the heat will build up very quickly and being out in the park will be unpleasant, if not, unsafe.
I propose that we cancel the normal event. As long as the fire danger rating stays at "high" I will try to get up a bit earlier and do so some watering around the garden. If you feel inclined to join me, you are welcome, but I think I will be finished by 10:00am. If the fire danger rating increases to Extreme or Catastrophic we will not be able to volunteer in the park at all.
For convenience, I will leave the event open on the website, so if we do proceed, I will be able to record our participation and hours against the event.
Hope you can keep comfortable on Sunday, and if I don't see you then I thank you for your participation and contribution to protecting the park and local ecosystem and send you and your family my best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
Happy bushcare for 2025
Please let us know if you are coming so we have sufficient equipment for you.
